Former leader on corruption charge
Former Taiwanese president Lee Teng-hui has been indicted on a charge of embezzlement, a prosecutor said.
Prosecutor Chen Hong-ta said Lee and his top aide Liu Tai-ying were indicted on charges of embezzling 7.79 million US dollars (£4.8 million) from a secret diplomatic fund.
Lee served as president between 1988 and 2000. He was elected in Taiwan's first popular presidential election in 1996.
Another former Taiwanese president, Chen Shui-bian, is serving a 17-year-jail term for a series of corruption charges.
