Former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan dies aged 80
Former secretary-general of the UN Kofi Annan has died at the age of 80.
The Ghanaian diplomat served in the position for two terms from 1997 to 2006, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
He was the first black African to hold the position, and later served as the UN special envoy for Syria in efforts to resolve the conflict which has raged in the country since 2011.
