Fortune teller rapist told girl his 'spirit' had to be in her
Fortune teller, Cesar Duran, has been convicted of rape after convincing two teenage girls he could change their dismal futures if they had sex with him.
Duran was found guilty of charges that included forcible rape and lewd acts on a 14-year-old child and unlawful intercourse with a minor. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced next month in California.
Prosecutor Lana Kim says the 47-year-old Inglewood fortuneteller tricked the girls into having sex with him by telling them bad things would happen and he could help. The prosecutor says Duran told one girl "my spirit has to be in you."
Defense lawyer Gregory Humphries says Duran's videotaped confession came about because he was cold in a police interrogation room and wanted to end questioning.
