Glider crashes filming GM advert
A glider that crashed at a Washington state airport, killing the pilot, was involved in filming a commercial for car maker General Motors, it has emerged.
Kittitas County sheriff's office said the glider was being towed down the runway at an airport about 75 miles south east of Seattle and was just starting to lift off when it crashed on Thursday.
A helicopter was filming the glider from above Cle Elum Municipal Airport.
The sheriff's office said the pilot, 53-year-old William Weller of Tukwila, was the only person on board.
GM spokesman Patrick Morrissey called the accident "tragic". The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the glider was registered to Northwest Eagles Soaring of Tukwila.
