Golden girl Kelly champions the land where she learned how to ski

By Nevin Farrell

Bangor Olympic Gold Medal skier Kelly Gallagher is back where it all began.

The 29-year-old discovered skiing in the tiny state of Andorra when she was just 17, a journey which told her to gold medal success at the Sochi Paralympics.

Last year Kelly won Paralympic GB's first ever gold at the Winter Games with victory in the visually impaired Super-G in Sochi.

Kelly has been appointed as 'Andorra Turisme Ambassador' to promote the country as an year-round activity destination in the UK market.

At the age of 17 Kelly discovered skiing while driving through Andorra en route to Barcelona with her family and they booked a spontaneous ski lesson in the resort of Sodeu in the Andorran ski area of Grandvalira.

Kelly said: "Having started my skiing career in Andorra, it's been great to come back to where it all began and ski on the same pistes where I tried the sport for the first time 12 years ago."
