British officials are investigating claims that a woman swept away while swimming in India has been found dead.
Reports said that the body of Christina Reed, from Torquay in Devon, had been located.
The Foreign Office said only that a British person was missing and it was investigating the latest reports.
The Mail Online website said Ms Reed, 25, had not been seen since getting caught in a strong current as she swam in the Umkynsan River on Saturday.
It said she had been swimming with her boyfriend, who helped identify her body.
The couple had flown to India from Thailand earlier this month and had been trekking in the village of Sohra.
The report quoted police as saying she was caught in a strong current following monsoonal rains that had swollen the river in which she had been swimming, making it extremely dangerous.
Police were uncontactable, but an item on the Meghalaya Police website said that Ms Christina Reed had drowned, with the body located at around 2pm on Tuesday.
Devon and Cornwall police had no information on the case.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware that a British national has been reported missing in India. Local authorities are investigating. We are in touch with the family and providing consular assistance."
