L'Wren Scott was going to announce the closure of her debts-stricken fashion business, a friend has claimed.
Writing in The New York Times, Cathy Horyn, the newspaper's former fashion critic and friend of Ms Scott said she had learnt since her death that she "was planning to close her business, with an announcement on Wednesday (yesterday)".
The New York City medical examiner yesterday ruled the death of Ms Scott as suicide, after she died of hanging. There was no note.
Ms Horyn also wrote she had spoken to Ms Scott in the past few weeks and that she had sounded "rundown and discouraged".
The business, LS Fashion, had a deficit of £3.5m, according to accounts filed in the UK in October. Ms Scott (49) had been the partner of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger for 13 years.
Guitarist Keith Richards said: "We're thick as thieves and we're all feeling for the man."
