Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf has been granted bail, paving the way for his possible release after more than six months of house arrest.

Defence lawyer Ilyas Saddiqi says a court granted Musharraf bail in a case involving his alleged role in the death of a radical cleric killed during a raid on a hard-line mosque in Islamabad in 2007.

Musharraf has been granted bail in three other cases against him.

Saddiqi says being granted bail in this case means that Musharraf should be free to leave his house on the outskirts of Islamabad, where he has been held under arrest since April. He says Musharraf is still prevented from leaving the country.
