Knifeman shot at newspaper office

A man who entered the offices of an upstate New York newspaper looking dazed and brandishing a knife has been shot by two police officers after charging at them.

The shooting happened at the offices of the Daily Gazette in Schenectady, which is about 10 miles north-west of Albany.

The newspaper said on its website that the man appeared weak and possibly medicated and refused several requests to leave.

The paper's general manager called 911 when he saw that the man was carrying a knife.

The newspaper said two officers tried for five minutes to get the man to drop the weapon, then fired several times when the man charged.

He was still breathing when the ambulance took him away.
