Former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee is ending his Democratic presidential campaign.
In prepared remarks before an appearance in front of the Democratic National Committee, Mr Chafee said he is dropping out.
Mr Chafee delivered a widely criticised debate performance earlier this month. He has struggled to raise money and gain traction against Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Mrs Clinton is currently leading the field with only two rivals remaining and vice president Joe Biden announcing on Wednesday that he will stay out of the race.
The former US senator called himself a "block of granite" when it came to issues during the debate and has highlighted his opposition to the Iraq war.
