Magnitude-6.4 quake hits Chile

US monitors say a magnitude-6.4 earthquake has struck just off the shore of central Chile, affecting the same area where last year's much larger earthquake set off a devastating tsunami.

Chile's emergency office said the quake was a 6.3 and that no damage to people or buildings has been reported.

The US Geological Survey says this earthquake struck just before 1300 GMT on Wednesday and was centred 59 miles south-west of Concepcion, the capital of Chile's Bio-Bio region.
