Man attempts parliamentary plunge

A man has tried to jump from the public gallery of New Zealand's Parliament into the debating chamber.

He attempted to climb over a low barrier during a routine parliamentary session.

The man was restrained by a security guard and several other people who were watching the debate.

The Parliament's public gallery is around 12 feet above the ground.

Prime Minister John Key initially blamed his political opponents in the Labour Party for the incident.

The two parties have been arguing over the level of security detail needed for Mr Key.
