Nato soldier killed by insurgents

Insurgents have killed a Nato soldier in southern Afghanistan, the alliance has said.

It gave no further details on the killing, which took place on Friday. The death brings the number of coalition troops killed in Afghanistan this year to more than 320.

Meanwhile, Afghan police say their troops accidentally killed two civilians after the Taliban infiltrated an anti-Nato rally and shot dead a police officer in the southern province of Zabul.

Residents of the town of Qalat were protesting at a Nato operation that killed three suspected insurgents overnight.

Taliban fighters reportedly shot dead one policeman and wounded two others. Afghan police returned fire, killing the two civilians and also wounding two others.
