Several people have been killed after two bomb attacks hit mosques in Baghdad

At least nine people have been killed in bomb attacks on two mosques in Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.

Police officials said a suicide bomber set off his explosives against Shia worshippers as they were leaving the Assad Allah mosque in the capital's Hussainya suburb. Seven people died and 11 others were injured.

In western Baghdad, two worshippers were killed in a blast near a Sunni mosque.

Hospital officials confirmed the death tolls in the two attacks.

Violence has escalated in Iraq, especially since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan earlier in July.
