No date set for Syria peace talks

The UN's top Syria envoy says diplomats have failed to agree on a date for a new Syria peace conference this year.

Lakhdar Brahimi said at a news conference in Geneva that diplomats "are still striving to see if we can have the conference before the end of the year".

After talks that lasted all day, President Bashar Assad's entrenched government signaled it is not ready to negotiate handing over power.
