An American nun has been censured by The Vatican for a book on sexual ethics.
The Holy See slammed Sister Margaret Foley's book which deals controversially with topics such as masturbation and homosexuality.
Sister Margaret, who taught at America's Yale university, was slammed for trying to present a theological basis for same-sex relationships, masturbation and remarriage after divorce in her book Just Love: A Framework For Christian Sexual Ethics.
The Vatican's Congregration for the Doctrine of the Faith said she showed "a defective understanding of the objective nature of natural moral law".
Sister Margaret, a past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and an award-winning scholar, responded: “I can only clarify that the book was not intended to be an expression of current official Catholic teaching, nor was it aimed specifically against this teaching. It is of a different genre altogether.”
