Oil concern sees speed limit cut
Spanish drivers are slowing down after the government cut the motorway speed limit to reduce energy use amid the oil production chaos in Libya.
The maximum limit went from 75mph to 68mph, and government workers spent the weekend plastering thousands of old speed limit signs with stickers stating the new limit.
The fine for violating the new rule is 100 euro (£86). But drivers will not be penalised with points on their licences for breaking it.
Officials said the new speed limit and a host of other energy savings measures are essential because Spain depends on imports for 75% of its energy.
