One dead in Dutch speedboat crash

One man has drowned and three others are missing, presumed dead, after a speedboat collided with a cargo ship on a river, Dutch police have said.

Police divers are searching for the missing men but hold out little hope of finding them alive hours after the crash on the Maas River, near the eastern town of Cuijk, on Monday night.

Police spokesman Eric Passchier told national broadcaster NOS that they are now searching for bodies.

Three other occupants of the speedboat managed to scramble on to the freighter after the collision and police found the body of a 32-year-old man in the wreckage.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
