Pakistani officials have said they are asking the US to cease all drone operations at Shamsi Air Base in a remote part of Pakistan.
The officials said it is part of a larger request that the US cease targeting militants in tribal areas without previously notifying Islamabad.
The most recent request was made to outgoing CIA director Leon Panetta on Thursday, according to one of the two Pakistani officials.
A US official would say only that the base in the Baluchistan province is under discussion. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity to describe high-level talks.
The Guardian quoted Pakistan's defence minister as saying the Americans had to leave.
It is part of the nations' attempts to rebuild their relationship after the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
