Palestinians to make UN member bid
The Palestinians will submit a bid for full United Nations (UN) membership at the Security Council on September 23, their top diplomat has said.
The bid will be submitted next Friday, Riad al-Malki told reporters in the West Bank capital of Ramallah.
His remarks appear to end the speculation over whether the Palestinians would risk a threatened US veto of their statehood bid.
The other option was to seek a lesser status as a non-member observer from the UN General Assembly, where the United States does not wield veto power.
Israel has warned of harsh consequences if the move goes ahead.
