Peru shaken by quake measuring 6.3
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 has struck on the coast of central Peru, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake was recorded at 11 minutes after midnight local time, nine miles from the city of Ica, which was badly damaged by a major 8.0 earthquake in August 2007 and also suffered damage in a quake last October.
The latest quake was at a depth of 24.4 miles.
USGS maps showed the epicentre exactly on the Pacific Ocean coastline.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami warning was issued.
