Pussy Riot member in Siberian jail

Imprisoned Pussy Riot band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been transferred to a jail in Siberia, Russia's human rights ombudsman said.

Her whereabouts had been unknown, and her husband has complained that he has had no contact with her for weeks.

Tolokonnikova received a two-year sentence following the band's provocative political protest in Moscow's main cathedral in early 2012.

She went on a hunger strike in September to protest prison conditions and was treated in hospital. The prison service later said she would be transferred.

Rights ombudsman Vladimir Lukin told Russian news agencies today that Tolokonnikova is in a medical unit at a prison in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia.

He did not name the prison, but said official notice of her whereabouts would be sent to her relatives and lawyers soon.
