Russia protest in MP 'spy' dispute

Russia has protested at the treatment of a British MP's assistant accused by UK authorities of spying, which it described as unacceptable.

Ekaterina Zatuliveter, a former staffer for Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock, was released on bail and faced no charges after last month's arrest.

But she still has to obey strict bail conditions while waiting for a hearing on her deportation in October.

Ms Zatuliveter denies any wrongdoing.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has said that the decision "dooms" Ms Zatuliveter to almost a year of conditions "little different from house arrest".

It called on immigration officials to either charge her with something or to lift the restrictions on her movements.
