Sri Lanka army chiefs sacked

Several senior Sri Lankan military officers have been dismissed for allegedly being a “threat to national security”.

The defence ministry said the officers had been “sent on compulsory retirement” because they were politically active during and after last week's general election.

A bitter campaign saw the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa defeat the former army chief General Sarath Fonseka.
