Swede ‘was behind Auschwitz theft’
A Swede is suspected of being the mastermind behind the theft last year of the notorious Arbeit Macht Frei sign from Auschwitz, a prosecutor said yesterday.
Two Poles and another Swedish man were charged with involvement in the theft.
Prosecutor Janusz Hnatko said the Polish suspects were motivated by financial gain and the Swedish man acted under “other obligations”.
The identity of the Swede suspected of being behind the heist was not given.
