Teen sisters face trial for murder of abusive dad
The case of three teenage sisters charged in Russia with the premeditated murder of their father who allegedly abused them for years has provoked outrage in Russia.
More than 200,000 people have signed an online petition urging the prosecutors to drop the murder charges, which could land the sisters in prison for up to 20 years, and widespread protests have been organised.
Mikhail Khachaturyan died at the hands of his daughters, with court records suggesting he was killed after falling asleep in his rocking chair.
Documents suggest he had earlier pepper-sprayed his daughters because his living room was not tidy enough.
The Khachaturyan sisters, now aged 18, 19 and 20, were charged last month with premeditated murder. The sisters, Maria, Angelina and Krestina, will be put on trial.
