Troops tighten grip on Syria border
Activists say Syrian troops are tightening their grip on villages near the Turkish border, setting up checkpoints and making dozens of arrests.
Mustafa Osso said the aim is to close off border areas and try to stop the flow of residents fleeing into Turkey.
Another activist said security forces today torched a bakery in the village of Bdama that had been the sole source of bread for the displaced.
He said a man at the bakery was shot in the stomach and had been evacuated to Turkey for treatment.
Human rights activists say more than 1,400 Syrians have been killed and 10,000 detained as authorities try to maintain their grip on power.
