Trump fires 'rocket man' jibe at Kim

By Niamh McIntyre

Donald Trump has mocked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as "rocket man" in a tweet.

The US leader tweeted that he had been speaking with South Korea President Moon Jae-in about tensions with the communist state, which launched a series of ballistic missiles in recent weeks and conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date.

"I spoke with President Moon of South Korea last night," Mr Trump wrote. "Asked him how Rocket Man is doing."

The presidents yesterday agreed to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea following the spate of missile tests.

However, Kim Jong-un has vowed to press on with his nuclear programme until it establishes a "military equilibrium" with the US.

North Korea will be high on the agenda for world leaders this week at the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly, which Mr Trump will address in his biggest moment on the world stage since his inauguration in January.
