Two killed, one hurt in plane crash

Two people were killed when a single-engine plane crashed into a garage in a neighbourhood near an airport in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, officials said.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said one person on the ground was also seriously injured.

FAA spokesman Roland Herwig said two people were on board the plane that had taken off from Smith Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana, earlier in the day.

The crash occurred just north of Charlevoix Municipal Airport, about 165 miles north of Grand Rapids, along Lake Michigan's north-eastern shore.

Fifteen-year-old witness Timmy Schut said he saw "debris everywhere" at the crash site.
