An assistant district attorney has been shot dead as he walked towards his workplace at a North Texas county courthouse.
Kaufman County spokeswoman Pat Laney said Mark Hasse was walking across the car park behind the courthouse annex on Thursday morning when he was shot multiple times.
Ms Laney said Mr Hasse was taken away in an ambulance but did not know if he died at the hospital or en route. Mr Hasse was in his 50s.
Investigators are searching for two suspects believed to have fled in a brown or silver older model Ford Taurus.
Officials did not immediately indicate any motive for the shooting, which occurred just before 9am about 33 miles south east of Dallas.
Meanwhile, an armed officer working at a Georgia middle school where a teenager was shot disarmed the suspect moments after the incident, police said.
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the back of the neck on Thursday at Price Middle School in Atlanta. His injury did not appear be life-threatening.
The suspect, also a pupil at the school and has been taken into custody.
Police Chief George Turner said multiple shots were fired and only the 14-year-old was wounded. A teacher received minor cuts in the aftermath of the shooting in the courtyard of the school.
Police spokesman Carlos Campos said investigators believe the shooting was not random. Atlanta public schools superintendent Erroll Davis says the school has metal detectors and officials are looking into how the gun got on campus.
