WikiLeaks: Sudan vetoed deal on kidnap

The government of Sudan prolonged the captivity of two kidnapped Goal aid agency workers for several weeks by vetoing a deal that would have seen them freed in exchange for a ransom, leaked cables reveal.

The dispatches detail how a local governor was close to brokering a deal to secure the release of Irish woman Sharon Commins and Ugandan Hilda Kawuki at least six weeks before they were eventually freed.
