Wizard Of Oz costume and Casablanca piano fetch $6m

By Staff Reporter

The Cowardly Lion costume from the classic film The Wizard Of Oz and the piano from Casablanca have each sold for more than $3m (£1.9m) at an auction in New York.

The items were among a treasure trove of Hollywood memorabilia sold at Bonhams.

The big cat outfit, which went for just over $3m, has been authenticated as the one Bert Lahr wore in the 1939 film. Its face is a sculpted likeness of the late actor.

The piano, on which Sam (Dooley Wilson) played As Time Goes By, fetched $3.4m (£2.17m).
