Women found in harbour had drowned

All three women found dead inside an overturned car that went off a Newport Harbour pier in Rhode Island, in the United States, had drowned, authorities have confirmed.

Post mortems showed that Louise Owen, from Llanbrynmair, Powys, and Femmetje Staring, from the Netherlands drowned, a department of health spokeswoman said.

Officials said previously that Jennifer Way of North Kingstown, in the US, had also drowned.

The car was discovered on its roof in about four feet of water on Friday morning. The bodies of the women, all aged 39, were found inside.

Police have ruled out foul play and speculate the women missed a turn in heavy fog that blanketed the city early that morning.
