One Direction ticket frenzy looms for Belfast and Dublin On The Road Again concerts

By John McGurk

OH Boy! Planet Pop’s biggest band One Direction is making a double date to delight their faithful fans in Northern Ireland next year.

The Famous Five – Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Ireland’s own Niall Horan  - will be back at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena for two sensational shows on October 20 and 21.

The group – currently at Number One in the UK albums chart with Four and also occupying the singles top spot thanks to their contribution to the Band Aid 30 charity song – confirmed the Belfast shows as part of their On The Road Again Tour 2015.

One Direction’s love affair with their Northern Ireland fans is well established with three previous tour visits sparking scenes of hysteria and fan worship unlike any other act around.

They first performed here as part of the The X Factor tour in the spring of 2011. They returned less than one year later for their own headlining concerts at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall in 2102 and most recently for four sold-out dates as part of their Take Me Home World Tour in March 2013.

The chart toppers will play in the 3 Arena on October 16 and 17 with tickets  priced from €59.50 to €87.50 - go on sale next weekend.

Just three weeks ago the biggest selling boy band in the world appeared on X Factor to perform their new single Steal My Girl and they surprised fans by announcing they would embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2015.

The pop pin-ups who have scored hit singles such as What Makes You Beautiful, Story Of My Life, Little Things and current smash hit Steal My Girl are the biggest success story to ever emerge from The X Factor.

Even though they came third in the 2010 series of the top ITV talent show, One Direction has become the most significant pop phenomenon of the last decade in virtually every  corner of the world.

Earlier this month, they made chart history – outperforming music legends like The Beatles to become the first band to debut at the top of the US charts with their first four albums.

The new 16-track album, Four – featuring 12 tracks co-written by the boys – rocketed to the top of the iTunes charts in 85 countries with sales of two million in just one week. It currently stands at Number One in both the UK and Irish charts.

Last May, tens of thousands of Northern Ireland fans headed to Dublin’s Croke Park for the band’s three-night stand at the gaelic football stadium – performing for close to a quarter of a million people.

One Direction’s upcoming Belfast shows in October 2015 are part of the just-announced seventh and final leg of their huge On The Road Again World Tour.

It kicks off in Australia in February – taking in shows in Asia, South Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the USA, They hit the British Isles in the autumn, starting with a trio of dates at London’s O2 Arena from September 24.

The band has also confirmed two shows at the 3Arena in Dublin on October 16 and 17.

Music industry sources aren’t ruling out the possibility that more One Direction shows could be added due to huge public demand when the boys are back in town!

H Tickets for One Direction’s concerts at the Odyssey Arena on October 20 and 21 go on sale on Saturday, costing from £43.50 to £70. Sales will be strictly limited to six per booking.

After a one-off performance in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in June 2015, the boys’ full tour kicks off at London’s The O2 in September and will include Belfast dates at the Odyssey Arena on 20 & 21 October.
