Poor old Dannii Minogue. If she was ever under any illusion that her success and hard work for Simon Cowell over the last few years might protect her from being publicly humiliated by him, she’s certainly been alleviated of such fantasies now.
To be fair, there were grounds for Dannii to think she might deserve a bit of respect and a smidge of loyalty from the makers of the X Factor. She was voted the show’s most popular judge by its fans last year, so there could be no complaint that she had failed to make a positive impression. She was regularly praised by the young acts she was mentoring, often singled out as the judge who took the most time to talk them through the process, the one with the most easily available shoulder to cry on. She was also the mentor of last year’s winner, Matt Cardle, who handed Dannii much of the credit for his victory, saying she had been ‘amazing’ to him.
None of this cuts much ice with Cowell though, who has taken his favourite, Princess Cheryl, by the hand and flown her to La La land, while leaving Dannii in no doubt that he wanted her out of the picture.
Officially, Dannii resigned from the British show when faced with the ‘opportunity’ to commute from Australia to the UK twice a week. Not much of an option for a new mother, and rather a cheap get-out for such a rich man.
