Culture Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed the opening of the 2013 Gasyard Wall Féile in Derry.
The Gasyard Wall Féile celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013 with a programme of events taking place from 1 – 15 August. Since its inception in 1993, the Gasyard Wall Féile has become the biggest community and arts cultural festival in the North West.
Speaking before the start of the festival, the Culture Minister said: “The programme of community events taking place over the next fortnight as part of the Gasyard Wall Féile will be one of the highlights of the City of Culture programme.
“The fact that the Féile is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year is testament to the hard work and dedication of the local community, volunteers and others who have come together to ensure its continued success.
“Events focused on benefitting the local community, either through developing new skills or building community confidence, play a vital role in the City of Culture programme. I am determined that the legacy of 2013 must see the city benefit for decades to come.”
