Kennedy announces £240,000 resurfacing scheme for Malone Road

A resurfacing scheme is due to start on a section of Malone Road, Belfast between Piney Hills and the Malone Road Roundabout.

The scheme which is due to start on Wednesday 19 February and is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

Danny Kennedy said: “This scheme is being undertaken to improve the quality of the carriageway on the road.”

Starting on Wednesday 19 February works will initially be undertaken between 9.30am and 4pm daily using localised lane closures and two-way traffic flow will be maintained.

On Sundays 23 February and 2 March 2014 from 5am to 8pm a full closure of Malone Road will be required between Balmoral Avenue and the Malone Road Roundabout. A diversionary route will be signed via Upper Malone Road, Finaghy Road South, Upper Lisburn Road and Balmoral Avenue.

To complete the resurfacing work of the roundabout a full closure will be required starting at 8pm on Saturday 8 March and finishing at 8pm on Sunday 9 March 2014. Signed diversion routes will be in place.

The date of these closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and favourable weather conditions and may therefore be subject to change. In that event details will be published on the TrafficWatchNI website ( http://www.trafficwatchni.com).

Roads Service has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however road users should expect delays and allow additional time when planning any journey.
