Playing tricks with our treats
The best things in life are free, the saying goes. Whoever coined that phrase clearly hadn't heard that the price of cocoa has soared since the start of the year, thus driving up the price of chocolate.
This is the second blow to hit us chocolate addicts recently, coming hot on the heels of 'curve gate'. Did Cadbury's change the taste of its much-loved Dairy Milk when it changed its shape from a chunky square to a smoother curve? Having studiously researched the topic, I came to the conclusion it's as delicious as ever, but that its weight has dropped by 4g, while the price has stayed the same.
So the price of some chocolate is going up, while the volume of some is going down. Good for the figure, I suppose, but bad for the purse.
