It's some accent, hers, I'll give you that. I mean, to destroy a TV programme ...

Odd, too, because just about a year ago, it was apparently one of the main reasons for the success of another top show. And it did very well on a record-breaking waterski jaunt across the English Channel raising thousands for charity.

Besides, it's not even a particularly broad Norn Iron accent at that. It's not Van Morrison "cleanin' windeys". But alas it's open season on the "grating" tones of our own Christine Bleakley once more.

First, the ladies and gents of the Shires give her a good old racist leathering after she's being dropped from Daybreak. Next, they get the boot in when it emerges she's to take over Holly Willoughby's role in Dancing on Ice. Then they get stuck in again when it emerges she is getting a £283,000 payout because of her premature exit from Daybreak.

"Take your annoying voice somewhere else," one troll posts. "Scarred for life and probably still got tinnitus from your grating voice," rants another. "You'll ruin Dancing on Ice!"

And so it goes on. The sort of abuse you never read about Tess Daly's proud northern tones or, come to think of it, Christine's co-host Adrian Chiles' Brummie accent.

But then, judging by the Christine-obsessed coverage, you could forget that Chiles was also on Daybreak. Nah, it's all her fault. Nothing to do with the show's dud format. Or her dud co-host Chiles.

To rework the old joke, it makes you wonder just what they could all have against a multi-talented, beautiful young woman who is engaged to a fabulously rich English football star?

Could it really be such an aversion to the Ulster lilt? After all, Eamonn Holmes is being lined up as possible replacement on Daybreak ... and no one's talking about his voice.

As we say in this part of the world ... aye right.
