Emotional cyborg specs - where's the specs appeal in that?

By Jane Graham

A Japanese scientist has created spectacles which allow the wearer to look sympathetic and engaged while they grab a sneaky snooze behind the lens.

Prof Hirotaka Osawa says his "emotional cyborg" glasses could become regulation kit for "nurses, waitresses, teachers, therapists" or anyone else in the caring profession required to look concerned, when actually they just want to get home in time for Corrie.

There might be some who will welcome this advance – and yes, a computer generated eye animation would be an improvement on some doctors' bedside manners – but I'd be wary if a romantic dinner date begins with him whipping them on before the starters.
