Let children go back to nature
I grew up in a terraced council house in a busy estate, but my dad insisted on regularly taking me tadpole-hunting, bird-watching and conker-collecting in the woods near our home.
I remember rolling my eyes a few times, probably when it was raining, but I have a respect for and interest in the natural landscape to this day. It's still growing.
The Royal Society for Protection of Nature study saying only 21% of eight to 12 year olds were 'connected to nature' makes me melancholy. Kids are not climbing trees, not netting newts, and not falling into streams.
In a lusciously green land like ours, that's truly sad.
