Sitcom Rev's dark turn deserves a 'bravo' for bravery
Television comedy Rev has always enjoyed a reputation for pushing the bar a little.
It's often silly and very funny, but as the brainchild of a creator/lead actor of faith (Tom Hollander) who admits to regular philosophical hiccups, its version of the church has been, in the context of a BBC sitcom, relatively bold.
This week saw it take a leap into landmine territory when a helpful and eminently likeable new parishioner turned out to be an ex-hoarder of images of child pornography.
It felt genuinely radical to suggest a church might be a haven for a repentant sinner. The flock, unsurprisingly, said no.
Bravo for bravery, Rev.
