I'll be keeping my head down
The good news – a one tonne satellite did not cause any injury when it plummeted to earth this week. The bad news – there's tonnes more where that came from.
There's more rubbish up in space than there is in landfill down here.
Worryingly, we're told the satellite fell to earth because it ran out of fuel. Which you would think could be a possibility given that there's no filling stations up there.
Space experts don't seem too bothered, though. Over the last 56 years, around 15,000 tonnes of man-made space objects have re-entered Earth's atmosphere without causing a single human injury, one boffin cheerily confides. When it all comes tumbling down, on their own heads be it.
