Legally speaking, I'm, er, confused

By Lindy McDowell

Police have issued a warning after a bag of legal highs was stolen from a Belfast shop.

The police statement warned people who might be offered the stolen sachets not to ingest them "under any circumstances due to the side-effects it can engender."

A spokesman warned: "If you have ingested the substance, seek medical advice." In the description 'legal highs', the key word is, of course, legal. The shop was not breaking the law.

Still. If the police regard this stuff as being as injurious to health as their statement implies, why only a panic after it's stolen?
