Will that soothing Ulster voice cure troubled soapstar Syed?

Art imitating life? Well, soap imitating life, anyway

In a current storyline in EastEnders, Muslim Syed has been fighting his demons over his love for his gay friend Christian (presumably the name’s just coincidence).

Syed’s strict Muslim family — and his own strong religious beliefs — have led to him attempting to stifle his homosexuality.

Eventually the family find a lovely psychiatrist who they believe will talk Syed out of it. (Aversion therapy involves the latter having to grasp the arm of the muscular and sweaty Christian and imagine him crawling with insects. A bit like a Bushtucker trial.)

Interestingly, the psychiatrist has a Northern Irish accent.

Whatever (whoever) inspired that one ...?
