Scots are calling the tune, David Cameron

Nuala McKeever

David Cameron has made an emotional appeal to the Scots to keep the Union. He sounds like one partner in a marriage pleading with the other to stay.

But if the partner wishing to leave was forced into the Union in the first place, that's not much of a recommendation is it? Each party must be in a union on an equal, willing basis.

The Scots have always disliked being lorded over by the English. Understandable. And anyway, couldn't an independent Scotland negotiate a new sort of union under more equitable terms? I reckon daddy's just afraid that mummy's found her own voice.
