Confiscation Order against Belfast woman

The Social Security Agency Financial Investigation Unit obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £10,512 against Elizabeth Campbell (53) of Cupar Street, Belfast at Belfast Crown Court today.

On the 23 May 2013, the defendant pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance and a Rates Rebate and on 25 June 2013 was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment suspended for two years.

At the confiscation hearing the Court agreed that the loss to the Department through the defendant’s criminal activity amounted to £18,512. The Confiscation Order was granted in the amount of £10,512 which represents the value of assets currently available to her. The Confiscation Order is to be satisfied by 19 September 2014. If not satisfied the defendant must serve a 12 month prison sentence.
