Editor's Viewpoint: Ireland women's hockey team have done us proud

The Ireland women's hockey team, which includes several players from north of the border, pulled off a magnificent coup by making yesterday's World Cup Final.

Although they were soundly beaten 6-0 by their highly experienced and professional opponents from the Netherlands, the Irish ladies, who don't get paid for playing internationals, brought glory to themselves and the whole island.

They were the second lowest ranked nation at the tournament, but ended up second best in the world.

They also made history by being the first Ireland hockey team to reach a world final. What an enormous and inspiring achievement.
