These may be uncertain times but Shawn Keeley from Dungiven is looking to the future with greater optimism than most of us. He has just won £1m on a ticket he bought in the store he manages in the small Co Londonderry town.
At first he thought it was a joke ticket but when it was verified he was laughing all the way to the bank.
Some people may frown on even this form of gambling but they should realise that the national lottery funds an enormous range of good causes, raising £30m every week for arts, sport, heritage, charity, voluntary, health, education and environmental sector projects. It is not just people like Shawn who are winners.
