BBC's new spending orders a shot in arm for NI creatives
Ofcom, the new independent external regulator of the BBC, which begins it work on Monday, is certainly throwing down a big challenge to the broadcaster.
It wants the BBC to spend the same per head of population in each of the four countries of the UK. The move comes as a quarter of people in Northern Ireland said they felt they were portrayed negatively on television.
In defence of broadcasters, it can be argued that we are often author of our own poor image, as witnessed by the political crisis at Stormont.
However, the creative industries have been a local success story and the BBC's new orders can only enhance them.
